This year, HOM has been accredited with the Environment Excellence Award at the 16th Annual Conference on Environment which took place on Tuesday the 9th at the Marriott Hotel, Karachi. The event was organized by the National forum on Environment and Health (NFEH) where the Federal & Provincial Governments Ministers of Climate Change were invited as Guests of Honors. Other notable invitees included the Commissioner of Karachi and Director General SEPA (Sindh Environment Protection Agency). Over 300 participants and delegates from various organizations attended the event.
The objective of the conference is to create awareness about ever-changing Environment and Climate change. This year, the conference was focused on the theme, “Together We can beat Air Pollution” where challenges, remedial solutions and the impact of air pollution on human lives, biodiversity, economy, agriculture, transportation and other arena were discussed. Presentations by both international and local environmental experts were given. The awards were given out on the basis of companies that were striving to better the environment and also the internal working environment for their employees.
HOM was awarded for its efforts in promoting a safe and healthy environment for its workers. It ensures this in several ways. Some of the measures taken include training provided to all employees regarding health and safety regulations such as firefighting, first aid, chemical and oil spills, hygiene etc. The company also holds the distinguished ISO 14001 and 9001 certification with regards to its manufacturing processes. In regards to the external environment HOM has passed a gaseous emission and noise pollution test to ensure that it is not excessively polluting the environment.
